Is there a minimum stay policy?

We have a 2 night minimum stay policy for bookings made on the 30th or 31st of December. Every other time of the year is a 1 night minimum stay.

Are the dorm rooms all mixed gender?

No, we have both male and female only dorms as well as mixed.

Who stays at The Cambie?

The Cambie welcomes travellers from all over the world. We do not allow local residents to stay in our hostel. This is to maintain an international atmosphere and availability for travellers.

Is there an age restriction on Cambie Hostel guests?

At our Nanaimo (Vancouver Island) location, there is no age restriction. Guests must be 19 years of age or older if staying at our Seymour or Gastown Vancouver location.

Do you need to a hostel membership card to stay at The Cambie?

No, but our membership cards offers nightly discounts on your stay and deals on ski lift tickets, car rentals, adventure tours, and local attractions.

What forms of ID do I need to stay at The Cambie?

The Cambie requires valid government-issued photo identification. This includes drivers' licenses, passports and provincial or state identification.

Do you have internet access? How much is it?

Yes. The cost is $1 for 15 minutes. We also provide free wireless internet for laptop users.

Do you have parking?

There are many parking garages located in close proximity to both of our downtown locations. Each of them having different rates for days, evenings, and weekends.

Do you have a curfew? or a lockout?

There is no curfew and no lockout at The Cambie International Hostels. Our Front Desk is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Where can I exchange my money?

U.S. currency can be exchanged at Front Desk at respectable rates. There are also several money changers throughout the downtown area.

Where do I keep my belongings?

Backpacks containing non-valuable items such as clothes and toiletries are usually left in the dormitory. Valuables such as cameras, passports, and money should always be kept in a safe place. Theft is relatively uncommon in hostels and we hostellers would like to keep it that way. Keep valuables with you or place them in the hostel's safe-keeping facilities.

Do you provide lockers?

At our Gastown location most of the rooms have lockers, if not there are lockers in the corridors. Our Seymour location has security lockers in our left luggage storage area.

Do you provide luggage storage?

Yes. Please inquire at the front desk when you arrive. When you check-out you are also more than welcome to leave your stuff with us and we will store it for you until you are ready to depart.

What time is check-out?

Check-out time is 10am (10:00). Late check-outs will be charged a $5 penalty fee for every half hour.

What is included in the continental breakfast?

Coffee or tea, and a muffin. At our Gastown location you can upgrade to a full breakfast with eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon or sausage for $2.75.

Do I need to make a reservation to stay at The Cambie?

In peak travel season it's best to call or e-mail ahead to inquire if reservations are needed. Rooms that are not reserved are available on a first come, first served basis. For this reason it's best to plan to arrive in the morning. This gives you the best opportunity to get a bed. Reservations can be made via telephone and internet (Visa or Mastercard required).

Can I use a sleeping bag?

No, we do not allow personal linens such as sleeping bags, sleep sheets and pillows. Please check these items at our Front Desk upon arrival.

Can I bring a visitor into my room?

No. Hostels are shared facilites . For security reasons, there are no visitors allowed upstairs.

Can I receive messages at the hostel?

Yes. If someone leaves a message for you, we will place it on the bulletin board in the main entrance stairwell.
